You shall not eat meat, fish or eggs.

You will not have sex outside of marriage. intoxicants, such as alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and tea.

You shall not play any gambling game.

The awakening of consciousness, the Lord assures us.

Living beings (embodied souls) have always been engaged in action, but the quality of their actions can be changed and take on a spiritual character, so as to no longer entail material consequences.

Together, the Lord and the spiritual being distinct from God are endowed with consciousness, and both perceive their identity as a living force conscious. But subject to the conditions of material nature, the distinct soul believes itself separated from the Lord, and it is precisely in order to uproot this erroneous conception of the conditioned soul, in order to free it from its illusory identification with matter, that the Lord has enunciated his divine teaching. Once this illusion has been dissipated by knowledge and renunciation of the material world, the distinct being recovers its real identity as an individual soul participating in the spiritual and absolute nature of Lord Krishna, God, the Supreme Person.

Awakening of conscience, the Lord assures us. For this we must always be absorbed in the mind of the Lord, He must never be absent from our mind. Thus, we must become a devotee or a devotee of the Lord, and offer our homage to Him. Whoever adopts this line of conduct receives his blessing, and obtains the refuge of his Divine Person. There is no doubt about this eternal truth.

We must therefore, throughout our existence, unify our actions with those of the Lord, for in this way we will be sure to return to God, to our home original, in its eternal and absolute kingdom. This is the highest perfection of existence.

Until 5,000 years ago, kings were surrounded by worthy advisers, all of whom were either great sages or first-rate spiritual guides, devotees of the Lord, who accepted no wages, for which they had no need. The state thus benefited from the best advice.

These advisers were truly righteous and upright beings. They were equal to human beings as they were to animals and plants. They never proposed to the king to grant his protection to those of his subjects who belonged to the human race and to destroy the poor animals. They were not foolish, nor did they suggest the raising of a monument to foolishness.

They were all great realized souls, who knew perfectly how to make each of the citizens of the state happy in the current life, as well as in the next. They had no interest in “hedonist” philosophy, to eat, drink, have fun, and thus enjoy life. They
