He who acts according to virtue shows himself to be pious and experiences happiness, he who acts under the influence of passion obtains a mixture of happiness and suffering, as for he who acts under the influence of ignorance, he is always unhappy and lives like an animal.

Depending on the various degrees to which beings are influenced by the different attributes of material nature: virtue, passion or ignorance, the results they obtain are also of various kinds.

Just as by performing various acts of virtue one reaches different levels of Edenic, paradisiacal life, by acting in an ungodly way, one is plunged into different hellish conditions of life. Those who are influenced by ignorance indulge in various sinful acts, and depending on the extent of their ignorance, they have to endure hellish living conditions of different levels. He who acts in ignorance under the influence of madness will experience less suffering. Whoever engages in sinful acts knowing the difference between virtue and ungodliness falls into a hell of intermediate sufferings. As for the one who acts in ignorance and in an impious way because of his atheistic nature, he sees inflicting the worst infernal punishments. Because of ignorance, every living being has been transported by various desires to thousands of different hellish planets since time immemorial.

Each galaxy is divided into three major regions. The highest is composed of thousands of Edenic planets, paradisiacal, the intermediate region is composed of thousands of planets of the Earth type, and the lower region called “Hell” is composed of thousands of infernal planets. Hell is located in the southern part of the galaxy, under the intermediate region, and so it is for each galaxy of the material cosmos.

The king of the Pitas (the deceased ancestors or souls of the disappeared who inhabit the planet Pitirloka) is called Yamaraja, the very powerful son of the celestial being of the Sun. He lives in Pitirloka with his personal servants, the Yamadutas; following the rules established by the Supreme Lord Krishna, he commands them to bring all sinners to him immediately after their death. When they are in his presence, he judges them fairly according to the specific faults of which they are guilty; then he sends them to one of the many infernal planets to be punished accordingly.

The kingdom of Yamaraja has hundreds and thousands of infernal planets, and all ungodly beings join either of these planets according to their degree of ungodliness. Yamaraja is designated by Krishna, God, the Supreme Person to ensure that human beings do not violate the rules He has established. He thus has the title of “master of the destiny of beings and master of death”, and “judge of sinners”.

The soul can experience two forms of transmigration or reincarnation after leaving the body. The first form of reincarnation is to the judge of sinful acts, Yamaraja, and the second form is to the higher planets of the galaxy, or to the spiritual world.
