No being, whether on earth or among celestial beings on the higher planetary systems, is free from the influence of the three attributes of material nature: virtue, passion, and ignorance. The soul acquires a particular body according to its status, as to the three modes of influence of material nature, virtue, passion and ignorance.
If her appetite is insatiable and she eats indiscriminately, the soul will put on the body of a pig.
If she wants to kill and feed on flesh and blood, she takes the body of a tiger or a lion.
But she desires to feed on the food offered to God, and she will get the body of a wise man.
Different bodies are thus granted to us according to our desires. Likewise, if we develop the mentality of a servant of God, we will return to Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, in his absolute kingdom. The purpose of life is to enable us to attain spiritual realization, and the restoration of our forgotten relationship with God.
Due to the consequences of his past sinful deeds, the being wanders throughout the galaxy.
Life after life he is placed in various bodies within various species by different fathers. It is not thanks to a father or a mother that the living being is born. This being has an identity quite distinct from its alleged parents. It is by the laws of nature that he is forced to enter the seed of a father and then be introduced into the womb of a mother. He does not have the power to choose who will become his father. The laws of nature force it to go to different parents, just like a consumer product that is bought and resold. The alleged kinship between a father and a son therefore exists only by an arrangement of nature, it has no real meaning and that is why it is said to be illusory. The father-son bond is only at the level of the body, and in no case at the level of the soul.
The same living being will obtain a father and a mother belonging sometimes to the animal kingdom, and sometimes to the human species. Sometimes his parents will be birds, and other times they will be celestial beings.
This is why Lord Chaitanya, Mahaprabhu, the Golden Avatar, Krishna Himself says: “harassed life after life by the laws of nature, the distinct being wanders through the entire galaxy on different planets and within various species. If somehow he is fortunate enough to meet a holy man who will alter his entire life, then he can return to God, to his original home.”
It is written in the Vedas, the original holy scriptures: “During the transmigration (reincarnation) of the soul through different bodies, each one, whatever he is, human being, animal, vegetable or celestial being, obtains a father and a mother. So there is nothing difficult about it. What is, is to get a genuine spiritual master, and Krishna.”
