It is ignorance of the data relating to God, to existential truth, to true spiritual knowledge, and to the knowledge of our true identity, which leads the incarnate spiritual being to opt for atheism, and atheism leads to criminality, to the blindness and darkness of ignorance.

He who is not conscious of Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, must be considered a thief. Even if he has achieved a high level of material advancement, a wrongdoer cannot be in a comfortable position. A thief is always a thief, and deserves to be punished. Since people are deprived of God’s conscience, they have become thieves. That is why they are punished by the laws of the material nature, and no one can go against this state of affairs, even through the good offices of various agencies of public assistance and humanitarian works. If the inhabitants of the earth do not adopt Krishna consciousness or God consciousness, they will experience starvation and much suffering.

Suicide is a guilty, reprehensible act that must never be committed. Suicide means killing one’s body before its end. A particular body was granted to us to enjoy and suffer for a given time, and all this in accordance with our interested activities committed in our previous life.

Lord Krishna says: “You have dedicated your life and body to My service. Therefore, your body does not belong to you, you have no right to remove it. I have many services to perform through you.”

The Supreme Lord’s condemnation of suicide seems obvious, and thus the person who commits suicide is at great risk. Two situations present themselves to the suicidal: on the one hand, to find a body and thus to note that his next life will be prolonged and the suffering maintained, and on the other hand, to be deprived of body of dense matter for a certain time and to have to wander, in a ghost body or ethereal body.

The situation of the ghost is particularly miserable and painful, because although he feels many desires, the disembodied soul no longer has the possibility of satisfying them through a carnal body. This is why ghosts moan and lament. In reality, the groans of the ghost are complaints, cries for help. We have there, the expression of the suffering that can feel a soul deprived of carnal envelope.
