gospel], innocent animals are slaughtered for the satisfaction of the senses. Worshiping ghosts and spirits, the bewildered person falls completely into the grip of unauthorized activity and therefore goes to hell, where he or she receives a material body infected with nature's darkest modes. In such a degraded body, he unfortunately continues to perform ominous activities which greatly increase his future unhappiness, and so he again accepts a similar material body. What happiness can there be for one who indulges in activities which inevitably end in death?
(Srimad-Bhagavatam. (Wisdom of God) 11:10. 27-29)

Even Jesus forbids eating meat in these terms:

[Words suppressed by demonic disbelievers, in order to 'prevent human beings from knowing the truth, keep them in darkness and ignorance, far from God, and make them live in sin].

Jesus, who was a vegetarian, said.

He who kills, kills his brother, and condemns himself to punishment. The flesh of slaughtered animals will become for his body, his own tomb. Truly I tell you, he who kills and he who eats the flesh of slaughtered animals eats the dead body. Do not kill and never eat the flesh of your innocent victims, if you do not want to become Satan's slaves. Obey this word of God.

Kill neither man nor beast. Prepare and eat all the fruits of the trees and all those of the grasses of the field. Consume the milk of animals and the honey of bees. All other food is the work of Satan.

Here is a dialogue between Jesus and a Sadducee

The Sadducee: Tell me, why do you say that we must not eat the flesh of animals?

Were not cattle given to man like fruits and herbs?

Jesus answered him by opening a melon: Look at this fruit of the earth, look with your own eyes on this good fruit of the ground, and see the seeds it contains. Each melon can produce over 100 other melons. If you plant this seed, you feed on the true God, for no blood has been shed. No cry was heard by your ears and no blood was seen by your eyes. The real food of man comes from our mother earth.

But look what Satan gives; anguish and death, the blood of the living taken by the sword. Do you not know that he who lives by the sword will perish by the sword?

Go, plant the good fruit of life, and do not make animals suffer any more.

Jesus adds: Verily I say unto you, it is for this end that I have come into the world: to put away all the offerings of blood and the delighting of the flesh of animals and birds, which are slain by the men.

In the beginning, God gave all the fruits of the trees, the seeds, the herbs and the plants as food; but those who loved themselves more than they loved God or their fellow men, corrupted their ways, bringing diseases into their bodies and filling the earth with lust and violence.

Jesus was a vegetarian, he practiced spiritual vegetarianism.
