were philosophers in the truest sense of the word, who fully understood the purpose of human life. Required to meet all these requirements, the king's advisers gave him just directives, and the monarch, or the head of state, himself a qualified devotee of the Lord, observed them to the letter for the good of the state., and of course all citizens.

In those days, no citizens, humans or animals, were unhappy. Slaughterhouses did not exist, and the king ensured that no animals were killed. The monarch watched over and protected all living beings, humans, animals and plants.

Krishna, God, the Supreme Person is vegetarian.

God willing, the earth would produce many more fruits, grains, and other foodstuffs than all the people of the world could eat, even if they ate ten times as much as they could.

In truth, nothing is lacking in this material world except the consciousness of God, the consciousness of Krishna, the Sovereign Person, too, by the transcendent will of God, the Supreme Person, the earth will produce enough food that no one will encounter economic hardship. This truth is very easy to understand. The production of fruits, flowers, and grains does not depend on us, but on the supreme will of God alone. When He is satisfied, God can give us fruits, flowers, grains, etc., in abundance, in sufficient quantity.

However, when people become irreligious and atheistic, nature that acts under authority of God, and by divine will, restricts the production of food.

It is necessary to adopt the vegetarian diet if we are to practice spirituality in its pure essence.

In truth, all spiritual practices aim at the purification of the being, and food should also contribute to this end. Our physical makeup and mental attitude are determined by our diet. Also, the original holy scriptures recommend to those who wish to become aware of Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, to honor the reliefs of the consecrated food which they will have previously offered to the Lord.

If we eat the food consecrated and previously offered to God, we will contract the consciousness of God. The principle is simple, it is to eat nothing (no meat, fish and eggs) or drink (no alcohol) that was not first offered to the Lord. This principle will allow us to progress in the consciousness of God.

The Lord said: If one offers Me with love and devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, this offering, I will 'will accept.
